INVESTIGATING THE ROLE OF MICROBES & CARBON IN SOIL/PLANT INTERACTIONS IN BURDEKIN SOILS

Increasing cost of fertilizer inputs and apparent under utilization of applied nutrients, suggests that we should be looking for better ways to farm our soils for optimum returns.

The aim of this project was to test the theory that by increasing soil microbiological activity there can be agronomic gains through (a) suppression of “bad pathogens”; (b) increasing soil carbon and (c) increasing the availability of “soil pool” nutrients.
